Coldweld Crystals

For applications requiring aging characteristics of better than ± 1 ppm per year, CINOX recommends using quartz crystals mounted in coldweld holders. Coldweld is a solder free operation which seals the crystal cover to the base with a high pressure hermetic sealing technique. The minimization of contaminants and the absence of high temperatures during the sealing process allow for the lowest frequency change vs. time. CINOX offers all common coldweld holders, including the TO-type (round) packages.

TCXO Crystals

CINOX manufactures TCXO crystals for a wide variety of applications in the areas of communication, navigation and test instruments. Our crystals have excellent aging and low perturbations. We have tight control over series resistance, motional capacitance and other parameters critical to TCXO performance. While we have TCXO crystals in the table below with proven designs, we primarily build to your specifications. When possible, we prefer to work with you in writing the specification. There are many "trade-offs" required when specifying a TCXO crystal. For example, in an effort to decrease the size and location of perturbations, it is possible to make a decision which might adversely affect shock and vibration performance or phase noise. To avoid this and other problems please call us and discuss your requirements with one of our crystal design engineers at the earliest convenient time. TCXOs almost always use AT-cut crystals.

OCXO Crystals

CINOX offers a line of high stability precision crystals for the most stringent OCXO applications. These crystals are designed for use in high stability proportional ovens for applications in frequency counters, sophisticated communications systems, navigational systems and any other application where the tightest frequency control is required. Stabilities to 5 x 10^-10/day are available. Better stabilities than this are obtained after burn-in. Use CINOX crystals for the ultimate in long and short term stability. For OCXO applications you can use AT, SC, or IT-cut crystals.

TO-5 (HC-35) Packaged Crystals

CINOX offers a complete line of TO-5 packaged crystals for 10 MHz to 180 MHz designed to meet the high stability, low phase noise applications commonly required of crystals which are multiplied up to the GHz range. These crystals are ruggedly mounted at either two, three or four points for best shock and vibration performance. Standard lead length is .5". Standard delivery is 4 weeks for AT-cuts and 6 weeks for SC-cuts. Premium delivery is available. In general, CINOX manufactures custom parts to your specifications.

Primary applications for CINOX precision coldweld crystals are microwave communications, radar and test equipment. The coldweld crystal offers superior aging characteristics which are absolutely necessary when crystals are multiplied to operating frequencies above 1 GHz. CINOX has developed several design and process improvements which have minimized phase noise in crystals. This type of research and development is being carried out on an ongoing basis, as phase noise is the number one crystal concern for users of crystal controlled equipment operating above 1 GHz.

Resistance Weld Applications

Resistance weld crystals are used in all types of RF applications such as: Two way VHF and UHF communications, telemetry, satellite communications, data communications, microwave, etc. For the ultimate in miniaturization, resistance weld is often the best choice.

Resistance Weld Crystals

For most applications the resistance weld package is the best choice for the quartz crystal user. The crystal is hermetically sealed in this package by electrically welding the can to the header. This is a flux-free process performed in a clean, inert atmosphere immediately after the crystal, can and header have been subjected to a high temperature vacuum bake-out. With typical aging of ± 2 ppm/year or better, resistance weld crystals are far superior to the solder seal crystals which they have replaced in most applications. CINOX offers all of the standard resistance weld holders.

SC and IT-cut Crystals

VI CINOX offers a complete line of doubly rotated crystal cuts, including SC-cuts, IT-cuts and modified SC-cuts. These highly stable crystals are available in frequencies ranging from 4.000 MHz to 80.000 MHz. The SC and IT cut crystals can be produced in all of the standard coldweld holders.

These crystals are primarily used in OCXO applications. The advantages that they offer are superior aging, quick warm up, low g-sensitivity, and excellent phase noise. Depending on the frequency and holder, these crystals typically reach stabilities of 5x10^(-10)/day or better in less than 30 days of operation.
